Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, DBT, was originally developed by Marsha M. Linehan, a psychology researcher at the University of Washington, under whom Ms. Janson completed her training, in order to treat people with Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD.
DBT combines cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness awareness derived from Buddhist meditative practice. It is an evidence based treatment used to help people who have difficulty managing their emotions. DBT has been very successful in treating individuals with BPD and has now been adapted to help a broader range of people including those struggling with:
-Anxiety and Stress
-Depression and sadness
-Bipolar Disorder
-Eating Issues
-Substance abuse
-Communication Issues
-Relationship Issues
-Impulsivity and behavioral problems
-Emotion Regulation Problems- including feelings of intense anger and/or shame
-Trauma
DBT aims to change behavioral, emotional and thinking patterns, especially those patterns which cause misery and distress. DBT includes:

Coaching consultation between sessions with Ms. Janson

Dr. Janson works with individuals in a variety of modalities to help them identify their short and long term goals and how to work towards a life worth living. In her effort to help patients achieve these goals, Dr. Janson provides, individual, as well as couples therapy, skills training and psychopharmacology.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps individuals overcome difficulties by identifying and changing dysfunctional thinking patterns. It helps people recognize and reassess their patterns of negative thoughts and replace them with thoughts that more accurately reflect reality.
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Ms. Janson can evaluate, diagnose, prescribe and manage medication for psychiatric disorders. She offers medication assisted treated for substance use disorders.
